Window of Wisdom

Under the guidance of our English teacher, the 7th grade students enjoyed an activity of making display board based on stories from our long reading book. First of all, we were given stories from the book ‘How I taught my grandmother to read and other stories’ written by well-known author Sudha Murthy. This book, which is a part of our English syllabus, is based on life values.

 

 

 

We were divided in groups and were asked to present each story on the allotted display boards. Working as a team, we read and developed an understanding of the main aspects of the given story in depth. Then, we made a rough draft of the layout of the display. We included root values, wisdom sentences, characters and their traits and the summary of the story. We finally displayed the content with the material provided by our teacher. Finally, all the groups gave a presentation of our group displays in the class.

It was truly an amazing learning experience and an opportunity to discover the creativity within us. This activity has been very beneficial for us as we were able to comprehend and present the stories with ease. This display board activity has opened a new window of wisdom in our life.

Music Intelligence Competition 2014-15

“ગાજે અતિશેય ઘેરો અંતર નાદ અનેરો
દાસાનું દાસ તેરો અંતર નાદ અનેરો”

‘સત્યમ્’ વાદનથી આત્મીય ભૂલકુંનાં ‘શિવરૂપી’ અંતર નૃત્યથી તથા ‘સુહ્લદ’ ભાવથી કરેલી “નાદ બ્રહ્મ” ઉપાસનાની ‘સુંદર’ પ્રસ્તુતી થઈ હતી. આ પ્રસ્તુતીથી આત્મીય વિદ્યા મંદિરના વાતાવરણમાં એક અનાહદ નાદ બ્રહ્મ ઉત્પન થયો હતો. અને એ “નાદ બ્રહ્મથી” એક અનોખી કલાની ઝાંખી થઈ હતી. અને ભૂલકુંનાં “નાદ બ્રહ્મથી” સમસ્ત આત્મીય પરિવારને મંત્રમુગ્ધ કર્યું હતું.

સૌ પ્રથમ તો સંગીતની ઉપાસનાથી થતા ફાયદા વિશે જાણીએ. સંગીતના માધ્યમથી ઈશ્વરપ્રાપ્તિ થાય છે. એ વાત તો સત્ય છે જ, પરંતુ સંગીતના માધ્યમથી અનેક જીવલેણ રોગ પણ દૂર થાય છે. આવો, એના વિશે થોડું જાણીએ.

અનેક વિદ્ધાનોના વૈજ્ઞાનિક સંશોધનો રૂપી જાણવા મડ્યું છે કે રાગ-રાગીણી ગાવા તથા સાંભળવાથી અનેક નાના-મોટા તથા જીવલેણ ગંભીર રોગોમાંથી અચૂક છુટકારો મળે છે. આવો જાણીએ એવા સિદ્ધ રાગ-રાગિણી વિશે,

• રાગ આશાવરી: આ રાગથી લોહીનું એક સમાન ગતિમાં પરિભ્રમણ કરે છે.
• રાગ દિપક: આ રાગથી પાચનક્રિયા અને પેટના રોગો દૂર થાય છે.
• રાગ તોડિ, રાગ અહિરભૈરવ, રાગ પુરીઆ: આ રાગથી કબજીયાત, ગેસ તથા તાવ દૂર થાય છે.
• રાગ દરબારી, રાગ કાનડા, રાગ જૈજૈવંતી, રાગ સોહની: આ રાગોથી માથાનો દુખાવો તથા ગંભીર રોગો દૂર થાય છે.
• રાગ જૌરવી: આ રાગથી અસ્થમા, શરદી, કફ તથા ટી.બી અને સાઈનોસાઈટીઝ દૂર થાય છે.
• રાગ હિંડોળ: આ રાગથી સ્મરણશક્તિ અને એકાગ્રતા આવે છે.
• રાગ પુરીઆ: આ રાગથી અનિંદ્રા દૂર થાય છે.

આ છે આપણા ભારતીય શાસ્ત્રીય ગાયન તથા વાદનથી થતા ફાયદા અને શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીતને જાગ્રત રાખવા તથા વેગ આપવા આપણા આત્મીય ભૂલકાંઓએ કરેલી સાધના વિશે જાણીએ.

કક્ષા 1 થી 3: 1 થી 3 નાં ભૂલકુંઓને તેમનાં ગુરૂ દ્વારા ઈલેક્ટ્રોનિક વાદ્ય (ઓર્ગન) તથા હારમોનિયમ પર સુંદર ભજનની ધૂન ઓળખીને તે ભજન શબ્દો તથા તેનો અંતરો ગાઈ બતાવાનો હતો ને આ નાના નાના ભૂલકુંઓએ ફક્ત 8 સેકન્ડમાં વાગતાની સાથે સુંદર રીતે ઓળખી બતાવ્યો હતો અને ભજન મનથી નહિ પરંતુ હ્લદયથી તેને હ્લદયમાં વસાવે છે તે સાબિત થયું હતું.

કક્ષા 4 થી 6: આ ભૂલકુંઓએ હિન્દુસ્તાની શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીતના ઊચ્ચ કોટીના કલાકારો ધ્વારા વાદન થતી શરણાઈ, વાંસળી, તબલા, ઓક્ટોપેડ, પખાવજ, જલતરંગ, સંતૂર, વાયોલીન, રુદ્રવીણા, સરોદ, ડ્રમસેટ, સારંગી જેવા વાધ્યોનું વાદન કોમ્પ્યુટર ધ્વારા તેમને સંભળાવવામાં આવ્યું હતું અને તે સાંભળી ફ્યુજનમાં કે તેમનાં એકાંકિ વાદનમાં કયા વાધ્યનું વાદન થાય છે તથા તે જણાવવાનું હતું. આ સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતિમાં દરેક ભૂલકુંએ ખૂબ જ સુંદરતાથી વાધ્ય તથા વાદનકારને ઓળખી હિન્દુસ્તાની સંગીતને જીવંત રાખવાનું તથા તેને વેગ આપવાનું કાર્ય કર્યું હતું.

કક્ષા 7 અને 8: આ ભૂલકુંઓએ તેમના ગુરુ ધ્વારા 4 લાઈનના સુંદર આધ્યાત્મિક શબ્દોને સંગીત રૂપી નવું રૂપ રંગ આપવાનું હતું એટલે કે કોઈપણ રાગમાં કે કોઈપણ સ્વરમાં તેને કંપોઝ કરી પ્રસ્તુત કરવાનું હતું. આ પ્રસ્તુતિમાં ભૂલકુંઓએ શીખ્યા વગર પોતાની સૂઝ અને સમજ પ્રમાણે આધ્યાત્મિક શબ્દોને કંપોઝ કરી સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતી કરી હતી.

કક્ષા 9 અને 10: આ ભૂલકુંઓએ સૌ પ્રથમ વાધ્ય પર એટલે કે ડફ અને ટ્રીમ્બાલી પર 4 બીટ અને 8 બીટમાં વાદન કરવાનું હતું. તેમા એક સમાન લયને ધ્યાનમાં રાખી તેના જુદા જુદા પ્રકારો જુદી જુદી લયકારી અલગ અલગ તિહાઈઓ તથા તેમના ગુરુ ધ્વારા બોલવામાં આવેલા બોલને તેજ લયમાં તથા તેજ અંદાજમાં તેવાજ સમયે તથા તેવીજ લયકારી સાથે વાદનકરી એક સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતી કરી હતી અને ત્યારપછી કોઈ એક ભૂલકું ધ્વારા એક વાધ્ય પર અને બીજી બાજુ તેમના ગુરુ ધ્વારા એક વાધ્ય પર ગુરુ સાથે સંગતી કરી હતી. તે સંગીતમાં ભાંગડા, લાવણી, ટપ્યા, ગરબા, હિંડોળ, ઘુમ્મર, નાસિક ઢોલ આવી અનેક રીધમ અને જુદી જુદી લયકારી તેમના ગુરુ ધ્વારા વાદન કરવામાં આવી હતી. અને તેજ રીધમ તેજ લય સાથે અને તેવીજ લયકારી સાથે ભૂલકું ધ્વારા વાદન કરી સુંદર જુગલબંદિ જોવા મળી હતી. આત્મીય વિદ્યા મંદિરમાં એક અનોખું બ્રહ્મનાદ ઉત્પન્ન કર્યું હતું. અને તેને નીહાળતા ભૂલકા તથા શિક્ષકગણ તથા સમસ્ત આત્મીય પરિવારે લય તથા તાલ સાથે સાથ આપી આનંદ માણ્યો હતો.

અંતરના આત્મીય નાદ સાથે આજે સુહ્લદભાવથી સત્યમ, શિવમ અને સુંદરમના સંગત સાથે આત્મીય વિદ્યા મંદિરના ભૂલકાઓ ધ્વારા ફરી એકવાર નાદબ્રહ્મ ધ્વારા સંગીતના માધ્યમથી ઈશ્વરની ઝાંખી જોવા મળી હતી.

The budding writers, poets, orators of AVM

As the school campus draped in a green covering after the monsoon-showers, the freshness and vivacity became fast prevailing, the palpable verve spread all over as if accelerating learning with conducive environment. Hence, the school retrieved its rhythm in academics, activities and incorporated competitions.

As a matter of fact, at AVM, learner’s delight comes unbidden in activity based learning. However, the implementation of the unique multiple intelligence based competition approach in the school, provides a rich backdrop where students make exuberant discovery of embedded content resulting in the most stimulating learning experiences. This time in the first week of August, Linguistic Intelligence was at work when students showed their fascination for words, reading and writing. A competition for Verbal and Linguistic Intelligence was held for classes 1st to 10th.

Poetry Recitation: 

In this academic competition, students of classes 1st, 2nd were guided by Kavita Ma’am to perform in Poetry Recitation or Action Song depicting importance of fruits and vegetables. Through this competition, the tiny tots got an opportunity to improve their clarity of speech, understanding and using apt words for needed expressions and remaining calm, focused and polite on the stage.

Story Presentation:

Here, students of grade 3 were encouraged and guided by Vaishali Ma’am to narrate a story through dialogues and enactment. In this story telling competition, students were exposed to some significant language skills of expressing their story through dramatization. The young participants of this competition gained confidence to present themselves on the stage in front of an audience.

Crossword Puzzle:

Linguistically smart students of grade 4 savoured and enjoyed arranging words and alphabet for the word puzzle and were on check for complicated words and rich vocabulary. Renuka Ma’am arranged for these interesting activities for grade 4th, 5th and 6th.

Parts of Speech in Sentences:

In this competition, grammar was on check, as the students of grade 5 appreciated and enjoyed the challenges in the complexities of sentence structure in which they required to identify parts of speech and collect them in their respective bowl with the labels of Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Adverb, Interjection and Preposition, etc. 

Story Writing: 

This competition was for students of grade 6th who are linguistically intelligent possessing a knack of writing. The story writing competition was to enhance the skill of appropriate usage of words and grammar for writing a particular text type.

Poetry Writing: 

Writing in the native or the mother tongue is an important part of language learning. Mukesh Sir and Rekha Ma’am organised this competition to assess students’ aptness and precision at linguistic contest, students of classes 7th and 8th were guided to compose poems on the given subject. 

Persuasive Speech: 

Chirag Sir and Saumya Ma’am arranged for this competition for students of grade 9th and 10th where students were given exposure to show their oratory skills. The participants persuaded the audience with their impressive speeches on the topics like ‘Money is not everything’. The elegant speakers of all houses created a tough competition amongst themselves:

In this way AVM students, participated in this Verbal-Linguistic competition to enhance their oratory skills and hone their writing skills. It has definitely created awareness for vocabulary and grammar.

Thus the future poets, novelists, journalists, bloggers, speech writers, editors and linguists are in the making at AVM!

સંગીત નાદબ્રહ્મ સાધના

नमस्ते शारदे देवि सरस्वती मतिप्रदे।।
वस त्वं मम जिह्वाग्रे सर्वविद्याप्रदा भव ।।

સંગીત એક સાધના છે. જેમ ઋષિમુની તપ, ધ્યાન અને જપ કરી ભગવાનનું મનન ચિંતન કરી ઈશ્વરની પ્રાપ્તિ કરે છે. તેમ સંગીત વિષયમાં હ્લદયથી સાધના કરી ભગવાનની પ્રાપ્તિ કરવાની હોય છે.

સામવેદ ગ્રંથની અંદર સંગીત કલાનો ઉલ્લેખ કરવામાં આવ્યો છે. તથા 64 કલામાંથી સંગીત કલાને સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ કલા બતાવવામાં આવી છે. આપણી સંસ્કૃતી માં સંગીતના માધ્યમથી ભગવાનને પ્રાપ્ત કરનાર શ્રી નરસિંહ મહેતા, મીરાંબાઈ તથા ભક્ત જલારામ બાપા આવા મહાન સંતો ભક્તિ કરતાં કરતાં ભગવાનમય થઈ ગયા. અને આજે પોતે પણ ભગવાનના અંશ ગણાય છે.

સંગીત એ એક એવું માધ્યમ છે કે જેનાથી સીધી અને સરળતાથી ભગવાન પ્રાપ્તિ થાય છે. આપણે હ્લદયથી ભગવાનનું ભજન કરવા માટે સંગીતનું માધ્યમ લઈ ગાયન અને વાદન સાથે જો ભગવાનનું ભજન કરીએ તો ભગવાનના હ્લદય સુધી એ પહોંચે જ છે અને તેનું ઉચિત ફળ આપે જ છે.

આવી જ રીતે આપણા આત્મીય વિદ્યા મંદિર પરિવારમાં સૌ (વિદ્યાર્થી) સાધક ભૂલકુઓએ સંગીત તથા નાદબ્રહ્મની ઉપાસના (ગાયન અને વાદન) કરી પ્રભુને તથા ગુરૂમહારાજને હ્લદયથી રાજી કર્યા છે. તથા સંગીતના સ્વર અને નાદથી આત્મીય વાતાવરણમાં એક સુંદર સુગંધ વધુ પ્રસરાવી છે.

જેમાં,

કક્ષા 1 થી 3:
1 થી 3 ના ભૂલકુંઓ દ્વારા “Rhyme singing, Solo singing, Group singing” પ્રસ્તુત કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. જેમાં નાના નાના ભૂલકુંઓએ ગાયનને સ્વર-લય-તાલ તથા હાવ-ભાવ સાથે સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતિ કરી હતી. જેમાં સુંદર તાલ અને લયના આધારે મનમોહક પ્રસ્તુતિ રહી હતી. આ પ્રસ્તુતિને આધારે સ્વરકારી, લયકારી તથા સંગીત શીખવા માટે ઉપયોગી થતી તમામ બાબત સાથે તેમનામાં રહેલી એક સુષુપ્ત કલા બહાર આવીને ઉત્તમ પ્રસ્તુતિ રહી હતી.

કક્ષા 4 થી 6:
4 થી 6 ના ભૂલકુઓને સંગીતની કૃતિ હતી "IDENTIFICATION OF AN INSTRUMENT" એટલે કે કોમ્પ્યુટર અને સાઉન્ડ સીસ્ટમના માધ્યમથી શાસ્ત્રીય વાધ્ય જેમ કે તબલા, હાર્મોનિયમ, જલતરંગ, મોહનવીણા, રબાબ, પખાવજ, સંતુર, વાંસળી, સારંગી, વીણા, શહનાઈ, રુદ્નવીણા, ગીટાર, ઢોલક, ડ્રમસેટ આવા વાધ્યની સંગતી તથા એકાંકી વાદન વગાડવામાં આવ્યું હતું અને તે સાંભળી ભૂલકુઓએ કયું વાધ્યવાદન થાય છે તથા તે વાધ્યને કયા કલાકાર તેની સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતિ કરે છે તે સાંભળીને બતાવવાનું હતું. તેનાથી ભૂલકુનું શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીત પ્રત્યે રુચિ જાગે તથા આવા વાધ્યને સાંભળીને તેમને શીખવાની પ્રેરણા પ્રાપ્ત થાય.

કક્ષા ૭ થી ૮:
૭ થી ૮ ના ભૂલકુને સંગીતની કૃતિમાં સુંદર ચાર લાઈનના આધ્યાત્મિક શબ્દો આપવામાં આવ્યા હતા જેમાં આ ભૂલકુઓએ તેમની આવડત પ્રમાણે ગ્રુપમાં તે ચાર લાઈનના શબ્દોને સુંદર કમ્પોઝ કરી જેમાં કોઈ ગીત ગઝલ કે ભજનના શબ્દોનો ઉપયોગ કર્યા વગર તેમને તેમની જાતે શબ્દોની સ્વર-રચના બનાવીને સુંદર પ્રસ્તુતિ કરી વાતાવરણમાં સંગીતના સુરો લહેરાવ્યા હતા.

કક્ષા ૯ થી ૧૦:
૯ થી ૧૦ ના ભૂલકુ સંગીત કૃતિ માં તેમની સંગીત સાધના તથા તેમનો લગાવ ખૂબજ આનંદીત અને સર્વ આત્મીય પરિવારને પોતાની તરફ આકર્ષે તેવો હતો.

આ કક્ષાના ભૂલકુ માટે સૌપ્રથમ ૫ મિનીટ સુધી ૨ વાધ્ય પર ૪ માત્રાની લય ને ધ્યાનમાં રાખી નાદ બ્રહ્મની ઉપાસના દ્વારા વાદન કરવાનું હતું. મુખ્ય ૪ માત્રાને ધ્યાનમાં રાખી તેમાં તેના પ્રકાર ઉમેરીને વાદનને આગળ વધારવાનું હતું. આ વાદનમાં તેમની લયને સાથે સંગતિ કરતા તેમના સાથી ભૂલકુની લય અને માત્રા એક સાથે આવે છે કે નહી તે ધ્યાનમાં રાખવાનું અને તેના પ્રકાર એક પછી એક સાથે વાદન કરવાના હતા. બીજા ભાગમાં તેમના ગુરુ દ્વારા મુખથી બોલવામાં આવેલા "બોલ" ને તે જ લયમાં તથા જુદી જુદી લયકારી દ્વારા વાદન કરવામાં આવ્યું. જેમ તેમના ગુરુ બોલ બોલે તે જ સમયમાં લય સાથે બીજા આવર્તનમાં તે જ લય અને લયકારી સાથે વાદન પ્રસ્તુત કર્યું હતું.

ત્યારબાદ ગુરુજી કોઈ એક વાદ્ય પર ૪ માત્રા ની લય સાથે લયકારી અને જુદી જુદી તિહાઈ સાથે વાદન કરે અને તે જ સમયમાં ભૂલકુએ બીજા આવર્તનમાં તેની નકલ કરી સુંદર જુગલબંદી પ્રસ્તુત કરી હતી.

આ ભાગમાં ભુલકુની આવડત, તેની સંગીત પ્રત્યેની લાગણી, તેની સાધના તથા ગુરુ શિષ્યની સુંદર જુગલબંદી (સાથ-સંગત) જોવા મળી હતી.

આમ કરવાથી દરેક ભૂલકુમાં રહેલ સંગીતની ઉપયોગી એવી તાલ લય અને સ્વરનું જ્ઞાન બહાર આવ્યું અને આત્મીય પરિવારમાં નાદ-બ્રહ્મની ઉપાસના કરનાર ભૂલકુમાં વધારો થયો અને શિક્ષક, ભૂલકુ, અને સમસ્ત આત્મીય પરિવાર સ્વામીજીના ભૂલકુ રાજી થયા ને આ જોઈ અમને થયું કે જરૂર આ સંગીત નાદ બ્રહ્મ ઉપાસના ગુરુ મહારાજ સુધી પહોચીને ગુરુ મહરાજને ભગવાન રાજી રાજી થયા ...

         આ સંગીત નાદ બ્રહ્મ ઉપાસનામાં વિજયસર, સ્વયમ મેડમ, આશિષસર તથા આત્મીય પરિવારના શિક્ષક ગણ આને સમસ્ત આત્મીય પરિવારનો ખૂબ ખૂબ સહકાર રહ્યો ને આ બધો શ્રેય સ્વામીજી અને આત્મીય પરિવારના તમામ સભ્યોને હું આપું છું. હું હ્રદય પૂર્વક સર્વ આત્મીય પરિવારનો આભાર માંનુ છું.

Art explosion by creative geniuses of AVM

At Atmiya Vidya Mandir, the post exam hilarity continued with different activities spouting unbounded fun and joy to the students . This time, it was the creativity under the churn, making the little Picasso...producing instant artists.

Exhilarating their imagination and fostering their aesthetic senses, The Art and Craft department of the school, in guidance of Manish Sir, organised an art and craft workshop for the students of classes 1st to 6th. This workshop was held in association with Pidilite Industries, a well known name in the world of art, craft and creativity. The students of I to VI Std participated in this workshop where in the specially trained staff, experts and artisans from Pidilite, along with the school’s hostel staff and Manish Sir instructed and guided the students step by step on how to create stunning multi-colour art, vibrant and dazzling images with amazing colour combinations to create seamless rainbow designs. It was bursts of inspiration, allowing kids to explore their imagination in a different way. The children were joyfully practising on easy designs with their hand’s natural motions, choosing nicest colour as if brightening their world.

The muddle of mixed paints, the mess of palates and brushes, the numerous innovation of unborn shades with some spills and no clean up...nearly novel designs and new patterns.... it was all free self-expression and spontaneity under creative process. Thus, this workshop increased art skills and self-discovery of the students to relieve creative blocks.

"પાંચ દાણા"

‘પાંચ દાણા’ આ બોધકથા ભાષાશિક્ષણ અને વ્યવહારબોધનો ઉત્તમ નમૂનો છે. જેમાં એક શેઠ પોતાના ચાર દીકરાઓની વહુઓની આવડત અને વ્યવહારકુશળતા જાણવાની ઈચ્છા રાખે છે. આ માટે શેઠ દીકરાઓની વહુઓને અનાજના પાંચ પાંચ દાણા આપી, દાણાને સાચવી રાખવાનું જણાવે છે. થોડા સમય પછી જ્યારે તેઓ પોતાના દીકરાઓની વહુઓ પાસે પેલા પાંચ દાણા માંગે છે ત્યારે શેઠને તે વહુઓની સૂઝ, સમજ, આવડત, હોશિયારી અને વ્યવહારકુશળતાનો ખ્યાલ આવે છે.

તેવી જ રીતે ધોરણ 7 ના વિદ્યાર્થીઓએ વિવિધ અનાજની વિશેષ માહિતી મેળવી અને પોતાની સૂઝ, સમજ અને આવડતથી અનાજના દાણાને વિવિધ આકારમાં ગોઠવી કલ્પનારૂપ સર્જન આપ્યું હતું.

AVM Star Voice Hunt 2012-13

Shaking off the winter sloth, Atmiya Vidya Mandir geared up for a high-voltage Pre-Uttarayan Break event.

As students and teachers were getting overwhelmed with countdown of Uttarayan Break, once again the Art and Music department of Atmiya Vidya Mandir laid a platform to support the budding singers to flourish with their inherent talent of singing. The most enchanting grand finale of AVM Star Voice Hunt was held on 10th January 2013. The sole purpose of this event was to give recognition to the talented singers of the school as well as honing the different intricacies of singing.

This great event was preceded by two elimination rounds. First, there was an Open Audition round in which near around 200 students participated, this strength was remarkable enough to conclude that a large number of students of AVM have inclination towards music. The semi-final round was held among 30 selected students which put only 8 students to contest in grand finale.

 

At the grand finale, upping the tempo further were singers in the solo singers' category. Geetgauravbhai and Shrimadbhai of Std V enthralled the audience with "Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana..." and "Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le" respectively, first runners-up, Kevalbhai sang the melodic "Butterfly Fly Away". The winner, Sarvanamanbhai of grade 7, had a huge round of applause coming his way when he sang "Tujhko jo paya". The audience excitedly shook their heads and soon gasped for breath as Rajbhai Panpaliya of grade 10 sang the most liked “Jee le zara.....”. Surrounded by hair-raising rhythms that only the band members could tell, “There is an appeal in the rawness, it all seems so divine,” said an overjoyed judge Birju Sir.

In this ‘Music Battle,' all performances were planned and organized to create an attempt to capture the spicy yet melodious flavour of singing on stage. The performances of student-singers were largely of the Modern-Jazz & Contemporary forms, with a high quotient of singing skill and grace. Synchronization and rhythm were the key themes of this singing contest as participants sang groovy numbers. From the intense and hard hitting, to the light hearted and tongue-in cheek, turned out to be a grand hit.

“The challenge was to sing fairly well to coordinate with the type of song selected for singing” said Mr. Mayank (Antriksh Band) one of the judges.

Taking the audience through both the old and new numbers there was an ear-splitting response. The day's events drew to a close as Ronak Mistry and Anand Pandya gave a scintillating, energy-filled performance on instrumental music.

रंग-बिरंगे मन के विविध रंग

आत्मीय विद्यामंदिर पाठशाला में दिनांक 31 मार्च 2012 से 01 अप्रेल 2012 तक कलाविद् (आर्ट शिक्षक) श्री.मनीषभाई प्रजापति के मार्गदर्शन में आर्ट मेले का आयोजन  किया गया था। यह रंगो की होली दो दिन तक चली, जिसमें कक्षा 1 से 6 के बच्चों ने अपनी-अपनी कलाओं को ‘क्ले’, रंग, पृष्ठ (कागज़) आदि के माध्यम से प्रदर्शित किया।

सुबह 10:00 बजे से दुपहर 01:00 बजे तक एवं दुपहर भोजन के पश्चात 01 बजे से 03:00 तक इस आर्ट मेले का आयोजन किया गया ।

इस आर्ट मेले को मार्गदर्शन देने के लिए पीडीलाईट (PIDILITE) संस्था के कलाविद् श्री रंजीत ताड़वी  एवं  उनके सहायक सदस्यों को निमंत्रित किया गया।

इस आर्ट मेले में विविध प्रकार की प्रवृतियों का आयोजन किया गया। उसमें  सभी छात्रों को दो जूथ में विभाजित किया गया।

प्रथम जूथ कक्षा 1 से 3 का

द्वितीय जूथ कक्षा 4 से 6 का

जिसमें प्रथम जूथ के लिए — My  Theme, Sticker Painting, Sand Paper Painting, Stick Figures आदि प्रवृत्तियों का निर्माण छात्रालय के प्रार्थना मंदिर में किया गया एवं द्वितीय जूथ के लिए— Paper Quelling Card, Sand Art,Creative Lettering, Shilpkar Mask आदि प्रवृत्तियों का निर्माण पाठशाला के प्राटंगण में किया गया।

इन दो दिन विविध कला एवं रंगो से खिला हुआ आत्मीय विद्यामंदिर ऐसा दिख रहा था मानो एक सजीला  इन्द्रधनुष हो। जहाँ भी दृष्टि घुमाएँ वहाँ एक विचार आकार ले रहा था। हर तरफ़ बच्चे अपनी-आपनी प्रतिभा को दृश्याकर करने में डूबे हुए थे। जगह-जगह दृश्यमान बच्चें ऐसे लग रहे थें जैसे फूलवारी स्वयं आत्मीय विद्यामंदिर में आ गई हो।

कोई क्ले से तो कोई कागज़ से, कोई गोंद से तो कोई पींछी से, कोई शब्दों को सुंदर रूप में मरोड़ रहा था तो कोई आदी मानव की मुखाकृति को वाचा दे रहा था। दृश्य तो बस देखते ही बनता था।

आचार्य श्री, शिक्षक श्री एवं दीदी भी इनसे अछूते नहीं रह पाए, वे भी बच्चों के साथ मिलकर बच्चे बनकर  सभी का उत्साह बढ़ा रहे थें। चारों तरफ़ का वातावरण कला एवं आर्ट मेले के रंग में रंग गया था। हवा भी आर्ट मेले की खुश्बू लिए आत्मीय विद्यामंदिर के प्राटंगण से भी दूर तक जाने को मचल रही थी। बच्चें इतने खुश थें कि वे चाहते थें कि ये प्रवृतियाँ कभी खत्म न हो! किन्तु पुन: आगमन के लिए कुछ समय तक इस  प्रवृतियो बाय-बाय कहने का समय आ गया था, इसलिए पूर्ण-विराम तो नहीं, किन्तु अर्ध विराम लगाना आवश्यक था, अत: 1 अप्रेल 2012 को दुपहर 03:00 बजे इसकी पूर्णाहुति की गई।

रंग एवं कला की है ये दुनियाँ।

कभी आकृति तो कभी विकृति है ये दुनियाँ।

कभी हरी, कभी लाल तो कभी पीली है ये दुनियाँ।

रंग से भरी रंगीन है ये दुनियाँ,

क्योंकि रंगीले मन की है ये दुनियाँ।

Igniting Scientific Temper

Flying is a dream cherished by almost every child. To give wings to such dreams of students from Std 8, 9 and 10, an aero-modelling workshop was organised during the Christmas weekend. A team of enthusiasts from the Department of Aerospace Engineering (IIT-Bombay) were invited to conduct hands-on sessions on building balsa-wood glider, paper boomerang/plane and flight simulator. Students were also introduced to the designs of peculiar aircrafts and were made aware of the air-crash investigations.

The Amazing Art Mela at AVM

Pampering their creativity and tapping into their inner artist, the recent Art and Craft Fair at Atmiya Vidya Mandir was a real treat to fondle students’ inclination towards drawing, painting, moulding, colouring and craft. Experts from Pidilite industries, who have excelled in the field of art and craft, were invited to organize a workshop for the students of classes 1 to 6. In this Art Fair, there was something for everyone, delivering more than just art, reason to celebrate childhood at fullest; with a whiff of summer and monsoon in the air, the buzz of nature’s colours just flourishing. With the countdown of summer holidays and amidst all this excitement the Art Fair gave one more reason to rejoice their senses. An essence of all the creativity and imagination was on the move in the Art fair.

Art fair for the children of primary classes focussed on colouring activities. This steadies the hand and helps them cultivate their imagination. They loved doing the rainbow, clouds and also attempted to draw vague creations. During this Art Fair, even monochromatic scribbles on a piece of paper gave the kids a sense of accomplishment, because they’d created something that wasn’t there before. And as they progressed towards using multiple colours and forming recognizable shapes, they gained even more confidence.

Students of Std I, II and III were trained extending their imagination and creating creatures with their thumb impression. The vegetable print making encouraged them to develop liking for vegetables and learning to cut them in various pattern to learn vegetable print making. They loved making finger puppets by assembling small handy things.

Exposing them to the Modern Art, students of Std IV, V and VI were taught the technique of mosaic painting. Tickling their creative skills, they learnt to make photo frame to gift their dear and near ones. Tampering their artistic fervour for painting, students were also trained to glass painting where they were to design and paint on the engravings showing their stunning clarity and choice of colours.

Expressing his joy on this workshop, the Art teacher Manish Sir told, “Passion, energy, intelligence and creativity” of students for art is on work. Crafts offer children the opportunity to express themselves in two- and three-dimensional ways. Students can develop vital problem-solving skills without having to rely on areas of expression that may be more challenging”. The painter, artist and gifted teacher Manoj Sir said, “Creative projects offer these students the freedom to show what they know without the constraints of printed text”.

Thus, the Art Fair consisting of a thematic variety brought out the sheer brilliance and unmatchable imagination of each student.

The Merchant of Venice of William Shakespeare By “All-Star Production”

The Merchant of Venice is classified as an early Shakespearean comedy, more specifically, as a "Christian comedy” and it is a work in which good triumphs over evil.

For Grade XI - Science and Commerce, the new academic year began by performing this most appreciated and loved play of William Shakespeare – The Merchant of Venice. It was a great learning experience for all the students of Grade XI. Right from the time the play was introduced, read, analysed and understood there was no end to their excitement. Each and every student of XI - Science and Commerce appealed to let them stage the play.

Everything was professionally planned and the work began. They named themselves professionally as “All-Star Production”. The Directors, Co-directors, Editors, Costume Designers, and Music Director were appointed. Then started the audition for the casts of the play. After taking the audition the following were selected as the casts of the play:

Students learnt many things apart from relishing the Shakespearean English. For example,

1. Friendship requires sacrifice. Antonio risks his fortune–and later his life–to help Bassanio win Portia.

2. Appearances are deceiving. Neither the gold nor the silver casket contains the key to winning Portia. Instead, it is the plain lead casket. Shakespeare expresses this theme–appearances are deceiving–in a message inside the golden casket. It says, “All that glisters [glitters] is not gold”.

3. Revenge ultimately destroys its perpetrator. Shylock seeks revenge against his enemies, but it is he who suffers the downfall after Christians unite to trick him. Perhaps he would have had more success if he had pursued justice instead of revenge.

4. Jews suffer bigotry and other forms of mistreatment because of their religion and race. Christians alienate Shylock simply because he is a Jew. In ancient, medieval, and Renaissance times, Jews almost always encountered prejudice from non-Jews around them. (Helped in enhancing students’ knowledge of the rivalry between the Jews and the Christian)

5. Women can be just as competent as men, maybe even more so. Portia, disguised as a man, speaks eloquently in defense of Antonio and persuades the Duke of Venice to rule in Antonio's favor.

Moreover, they learnt that the real evil in The Merchant of Venice was the corrupt value system of the principal Christian characters who are, of course, representative of people in Shakespeare’s time.

After all the learning, analysis, preparation and rehearsal, the play was professionally staged on 27th July, 2010 in the Auditorium of the school in front of the students of Grade VIII, IX & X and all the Teachers, the Principal, the Housemasters and the Hostel In-charges.

The best thing about performing “The Merchant of Venice” was that each and every student of Grade XI participated wholeheartedly in one or the other roles. They enjoyed every moment of it right from the introduction of the play till its final performance on the stage.

Hopefully, everybody enjoyed the play to their heart’s content.
