The opening ceremony of the tournament was held at the newly opened Sama Indoor Sports Complex, Vadodara. Many eminent personalities were present in the ceremony. The tournament was declared open by Dr. S. K. Nanda, a senior I.A.S. Officer of the Government of Gujarat. He was also introduced to all the team captains and their coaches by the CBSE Observer. Regional dances and plays were held to glorify the spirit of the game. The ceremony ended with the Oath Taking by all the players.
The first match of our school team was supposed to be on 3rd October but it resulted in a bye due to the absence of opposite team.
The second match was scheduled on the 4th October in the afternoon session against BK Birla Centre for Education, Pune. The game was in favour of AVM team in the first half of the game. The second half, however, saw a change in tactics by the opponent team. It eventually turned into a very close game with the final outcome decided in the last 2 minutes of the game! At the end, the game went in favour of the opponent team with a score of 18-13. In spite of losing, the AVM team was appreciated by the referees as well as other officials and coaches for their discipline and for playing with true spirit of the game.
The team then departed from the venue after attending the Navratri celebration and having dinner in the city and finally reached AVM via a train journey.
It was a very rich experience for the AVM Basketball Team players to participate in such a mega competition as it helped them gain a new vision for the game and for the school.
