Language, the stimulus - Verbal & Linguistic Competition 2013-14

The power of language is immense and intense. And, the only way to acquire it, is by its daily use. As an attempt to empower the different skills of language, Atmiya Vidya Mandir arranged an activity based on one of the aspects of Multiple Intelligence – “Verbal and Linguistic Competition”.

The competition was organised grade wise and house wise. The competitions were managed by the language teachers and judges were called to assess the competition. The English Language Team arranged three competitions to empower the language skills.


Story Telling Competition

Students of the class 1st, 2nd and 3rd narrated stories assigned to them. The competition was held for 3 classes and every class had 4 students representing the 4 respective houses. Every participant got 5 minutes to narrate the story. All the representatives of the houses tried their best to fetch victory for the house. It was held in Junior Prayer Hall.

Newspaper Reading

Newspaper Reading competition was arranged for the grades 4th, 5th and 6th. The competition was held for 3 classes and every class had 4 students representing the 4 respective houses. Every participant got 3 minutes to read the news within the word limit of 200 words. Considering the quietness required, event was held in the school auditorium and the two anchors, Smitbhai and Devangbhai added the excitement to the event.

Crossword Puzzle Creation

Providing a daily life language experience, students of class 7th and 8th were assigned with the task of Crossword Puzzle Creation Boggle. The competition was held for 2 classes and every class had 8 students, 2 each representing the 4 respective houses. Every team had to create a crossword puzzle which is not only interesting but also reasonably difficult to solve. The event was held in School cluster.




The students participated with full zeal and vigour to win, yet focused to perform the best.

The assessment was based on the predefined criteria and its score. The weightage and importance was given on the bases of creativity and team work. Students not only participated in the competition but also experienced the influence of language in daily life.

On the other hand, the observant judges left no stone unturned to ensure the complete assessment of every individual child. The competition was adjudged under the supervised invigilation of in-charge teachers.
